WHAT TO WEAR AND NOT WEAR TO A CHIROPRACTOR

A common question most people ask when visiting a chiropractor for the first time is what to wear. Since everyone wants to make sure that they wear the best possible outfit, that is both easy and comfortable. This problem is most common among women because they do not want to go overdress.

A vital suggestion is that you should probably arrive early for your appointment, especially if you are visiting a chiropractor for the first time.  First-time visits require you to fill out forms regarding your personal details and your medical history.

The job of a chiropractor is to relax your muscles and make your body feel better, and trust me, they can do wonders. However, even if you are going for the first time, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Just to enlighten yourself, below is a list of what to expect at your first chiropractor visit and also what you should and should not wear when visiting a chiropractor. Some of the most commonly asked questions by people when they visit a chiropractor for the first time are as follows:

Can I wear Jeans to my appointment?

So in a chiropractor session, you might need to wear something comfortable in which you can stretch. For men, if you are wearing jeans and you can pull your knee up to your waist, then you are good to go in those pair of jeans. But if not, try wearing a comfortable trouser. While for women, you can wear jeans if they are stretchable, but you would be more comfortable with something like yoga pants. Jeans are usually tight and do not offer the ability to stretch, so you should avoid those on your first visit.

Can I wear a Dress or a Skirt?

A skirt or a dress could be more revealing than you initially would have thought. When attending a chiropractor session, you would be requested to lie down on a flat surface and, you might have to switch positions between lying on your stomach and your back. You might also be required to lift your legs, so a dress is not an ideal outfit. To remain comfortable, avoid wearing skirts and short dresses.

Is it good to wear a bra on my first appointment?

If you usually wear a bra, then you should probably wear a bra. You can also wear a sports bra if you are more comfortable with it. Just keep in mind that you will be receiving a message from your chiropractor, and might go through heat therapy on your first visit. If this happens, you might want to have to remove the bra, which means you should wear a bra that opens from the back instead of from the front. This keeps you away from being in an uncomfortable situation.

Will I have to undress?

Mostly you never need to undress. But sometimes, the chiropractor needs to examine a specific body part or the region around it, so you might need to remove the clothing from that specific area. However, mostly it is just about pulling your shirt up, for example, if your back or stomach needs to be examined.

What footwear should I wear?

My suggestion to you would be to wear something comfortable, that you usually wear. Sneakers, flip flops, crocs, sliders, or slippers will be ideal as you might need to perform slight movements and exercises for which you might need a flat base. So heels are instantly out of question. Also, if you usually wear orthotic shoes, you should probably wear them to a chiropractor for additional advice.

WHAT NOT TO WEAR

One thing that I can say out of my personal experience of visiting a chiropractor in Snellville is that clothing and accessories that may sound like a good idea, don’t usually work out well when visiting a chiropractor.

Avoid too many layers

Too many layers may pose difficulty to the chiropractor as it might cause them problems to examine parts of your body. For example, if there are too many layers on your body and the chiropractor wants to massage your back, it will be difficult with all the layers on you.

Minimal Makeup

You might need to lie face down when a chiropractor asks you to lie down on a table. Thus, your makeup will be ruined more likely than not. In case you are not confident about going out without makeup, then it is best to go with nude shades.

Suits, Coats, and Ties are a big No-No

Most formal wear like suits, coats, or buttoned shirts is uncomfortable and restrictive in mobility. Even if you are headed for a chiropractor appointment from the office, it is best to change into gym clothes or something more comfortable.

Avoid Jewelry

Earrings, bracelets, and necklaces will cause problems. You have to lie down on the table when attending a chiropractor session. If you are lying on your stomach and are wearing a necklace, then it will just choke your throat and cause discomfort. Also, due to the constant movement, your earrings might fall off. Even bracelets cause difficulty in keeping your hands down in a straightway.

Refrain from any other accessories such as hats or belts

Belts are necessary to keep your pants in place, and hats are necessary for the winter month. But make sure you remove them before lying down. Also, avoid things such as suspenders or watches which restrict movement.

What things to carry on my first visit?

Apart from comfy clothes and footwear, you should bring a few other things too, such as

-Orthotic shoes if you wear them regularly

-A purse or bag to carry

-Previous X-rays, MRIs, or CT scans

-Carry a mini notepad to take down notes of suggestions made by your chiropractor and other things worth writing down to go through later

-Previous diagnostic reports or doctor’s notes

-Any orthotics, braces, or other devices you use regularly

-A list of prescription drugs you are taking

– A list of supplements or over-the-counter medications

-A list of your concerns or questions you might have
