Why Are There Ants in the House?

by

It’s estimated that there are over 10 quintillion ants on the planet. This means you’re bound to see some in your house from time to time.

But if you’ve noticed a steady stream of them invading your house, then it can be a major annoyance. No one likes finding these bugs in every nook and cranny, after all.

When you’ve got ants though, it usually means your property’s conditions are favorable for them.

Here are the reasons why you’re finding ants in the house and how you can get rid of them.

You’ve Got Leftover Food and Water Around

If you’re a messy eater, then you might be guilty of dropping morsels and crumbs on the floor. If you’ve got pets, then they’re probably contributing to the problem. You might not notice these crumbs, but the ants definitely can!

This is the main reason why ants swarm a house. They get food through scavaging, and they’re highly effective at pinpointing those minuscule food particles.

Ants also need water to live, so they’ll go to water sources, including leaks.

How to Get Rid of Ants

To stop attracting these pests, you should clean up after every meal. This is the most proactive way of stopping ants’ main food sources, as there will be nothing left for them to eat.

Check the floor to see if you’ve dropped anything and pick it up or vacuum if needed. You should also vacuum your home’s flooring regularly, as this can not only pick up food traces, but also dust and debris to make your home spotless!

Here are other ways to eliminate ants in your home.

Clean up Spills Right Away

You might be extremely busy, but make sure to clean up spills immediately. Otherwise, you might forget to do so!

Even if you remember to wipe up the spill, once it’s dried a little, you might not see every drop. And all it takes is a few leftover drops to attract ants in!

Take the Trash Out Regularly

The more trash accumulates, the stronger the smell will be. And if your trash can’s pretty full, it ups the chance that some crumbs might spill out onto the floor.

If you take the trash out regularly, not only will your home smell nicer, but you’ll also keep ants away.

Store Food Tightly

Not all food goes in the refrigerator, so for food items in the pantry, store them away tightly in airtight containers. This ensures that food scents won’t escape and entice pests to come.

Get Leaks Fixed

If you notice water keep pooling up, then you need to have a plumber come and fix your home’s leaks. Not only will this keep ants away, but it’ll also prevent water damage from occurring.

Call a Pest Control Company

Residential pest control services will be a great help. These professionals can determine where ants are getting in and what they’re drawn to. They’ll help you make your house impenetrable!

Get Rid of Ants in the House
