Cleaning the Shower and Bathtub
Did you know that shower curtains and floors harbor sixty times more bacteria than toilet seats? If that’s not reason enough to grab a scrub brush and get to work, we don’t know what is.
Start by getting the shower curtain and liner in your washing machine. Put them in the wash with some older towels to help remove scum and mildew. Wash at high speed in warm water with your regular laundry detergent and a 1/2 cup of baking soda.
Make a thick paste of distilled white vinegar and baking soda for your shower doors. Allow the mixture to sit for an hour and then use a microfiber cloth to clean it off. Rinse off and buff with a fresh microfiber cloth.
Use a natural disinfecting cleaner like those from Nano cleaning solutions on your tub.
Cleaning the Toilet
Toilet cleaning is often the least favorite bathroom cleaning task. Since it holds standing water at all times, hard water stains are common and can be a pain to remove. The best course of action is to prevent those stains from forming at all by being diligent with your bowl cleaning.
Pour a cup of white vinegar into the bowl and swish it around using your toilet brush. Add one cup of baking soda and another cup of vinegar. Let this solution fizzle in the toilet bowl for around ten minutes before scrubbing stains and flushing.
If you still have a lot of staining in the bowl, use a pumice stone to remove the stubborn rings.
Cleaning the Surfaces
An all-purpose cleaner is all you need to clean most of the other surfaces in your bathroom.
This is one of our favorite bathroom cleaning tips. Spray the countertops, walls, and even the ceiling with the cleaner. Turn on your shower to the hottest setting possible and allow steam to build up for five minutes.
Turn the water off and leave the bathroom, closing the door behind you. This allows the steam and cleaner to mix. After 20 minutes, use a clean cloth to wipe everywhere you sprayed.
Remove personal hygiene products from your counters before you start spraying. You don’t want to get a cleaning solution onto your toothbrushes.
While you’re at it, invest in covers or a flip-top holder to protect your toothbrushes. Your toothbrush can be home to over 10 million bacteria. Every time you flush your toilet, your toothbrush is exposed to germs from fecal matter particles.
